Research
My research seeks the use of blockchain technology to address data regulation concerns, such as the presents in GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in Europe and the Brazilian Data Protection Law (Law n. 13.709/2018 - Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais - LGPD). So, I have studied the LGPD application in the public health and education environment to identify the data subjects' rights and the data controllers' and processors' duties. To do so, my research group is developing an ontology to clarify the roles and entities involved. Furthermore, we have found that a data governance model is essential to companies' conformance with LGPD. In this sense, permissioned blockchain platforms are potential models to support LGPD data compliance. Therefore, we have studied the Hyperledger Fabric platform resources to define data governance in practice.
Current Projects
-
Blockchain and Data Regulation: Investigate the main principles and legal bases in the LGPD appllied in the COVID-19 pandemic environment. This project aims to study how the permissioned blockchain technology can suport such data regulation. Furthermore, we are comparing diffrent data regulations, e.g., GDPR and Canadian data protection in regards to consent management in public health researches. After that, our roadmap considers the study of data governace in the educational sector, considering the privacy by design principles.

Libra at Blockchain: The Libra at Blockchain is a RD&I project that aims to study blockchain in the Oil and Gas sector. Petrobras is the largest Oil and Gas company in Brazil and is the Libra's consortium operator. The first outcome was the BallotBR, a enterprise ballot based on the consortium rules using Hyperledger Fabric as a blockchain platform.

Enterprise Digital Signatures on Blockchain: AssinadorBR is a project focused on the use of blockchain smart contracts to sign documents in a distributed and immuatble manner. In this project we had to developed an architecture to centralizing costs without introducing a central authority in the Ethereum blockchain.

Blockchain application in the insurance environment: Insurtech is an innovation programan on the insurance area. Many undergraduated students from many cities in Brazil have the opportunitie to design, develop, and apply what they have learned in a multidisplinary group. Students from all graduation courses are welcome.
